PawByte wants you to pick what should be our next 3D game project

*See poll below*

PawByte has now expanded into three branches. Branch one, aka PawByte Light is a tools and middleware development team. In English, this team is what makes the Game Pencil Engine, editor and separate runners/exports for many platforms. This team by nature works in 2D and is talented in application design and general game engine and logic design. Branch 2 is PawByte Dev, which is a game building team. It’s main focus is to use our middleware tools to make commercial 2D game projects. The third, but not least and newest team is JollyAce, which mainly focuses on 3D game development(using Unity3D) and in the near future will also use PawByte created middleware tools for upcoming projects.

JollyAce currently does not have a specific project to work on. We are currently looking for community feedback on what type of game should JollyAce develop to release sometime in 2015 or 2016. Below is a short poll.

Which game genre will you like to see PawByte develop in 3D for the Nintendo WiiU?

  • Horror Survival Game (60%, 595 Votes)
  • First Person Military Shooter ( FPS ) (15%, 150 Votes)
  • Third Person Military Shooter ( TPS ) (15%, 146 Votes)
  • Sports Game (11%, 105 Votes)

Total Voters: 996

This game will be a Nintendo Wii U timed exclusive as we want to bring this game to as many platforms as possible, but we only have a Nintendo Wii U license out of the top three console platforms.  In regards to Android powered consoles( OUYA, GameStick, Kindle Fire TV, etc), we are investigating them as options, but are focusing all current efforts on the Nintendo Wii U first.

Please answer the poll truthfully as well as share it with your friends.

Thank you.

Sports and shooter games are not incredibly popular with the Nintendo crowd. A horror/survival game would be far more likely to succeed.

WTF? Given that most people who own a Wii U also own(ed) a Wii you can take a look at the official numbers of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.

Wii Sports Club didn’t do that well because of Nintendo failing to advertise it and thus people not understanding how good it really is.

But there IS demand for decent sports games there…

Wii sports was bundled with the console so I don’t see how you can include that.

An FPS that uses gyro aiming would be really cool, and one of a kind, a unique selling point for the game.

Why not use what people expect, are accustomed to and simply works? Which is WiiMote+Nunchuck.

Of course it is hard to come up with something controllable as Metroid Prime – but it is possible and many many people are waiting for it.

    (Open-World-)Horror-Survival would be awesome!
Something like “Day Z” or “H1Z1”.

Horror could have good chances on Wii U since the Competition is not that big. Please try to fit the Style of the Game to the Nintendo Universe. A photorealistic Zombie-Action-Shooter would not be very succesful in my opinion. What about something completly new? A horror game just in black and white… and red 😉 ?

I say the horror game because 1, horror as a video game genre is one sadly under-utilized when the potential for truly great and memorable games in the genre is greater today than it ever was. 2, the market is over-saturated with military shooters. We do not need more. And 3, because shooters and sports titles are not popular and would not sell well on the Wii U.

I would love a TPS with focus on tactics for your soldiers.

I choosed Horror Game because i don’t like the “military” in FPS and TPS. I’d be more interrested in a fast paced arena shooter though.

Still i like Horror games if they are done right and not only consist of cheap jumpscares.

    More Silent Hill less RE5/6.

    SciFi-Horror is also cool.
Lost and lonley on an isolated space station or ship.

Forget it!! Either you do a REAL Wii U title or you’ll fail.

I and many others are willing to spend $$ and do so IF the gameplay is up to Nintendo standards.

For all genres listed but TPS that means WiiMote + Nunchuck support.

TPS done right on the Wii U means using the GamePad in unique ways.

So – “time exclusive” is a no-go from the consumers perspective as this means a mediocre game using control schemes for which they didn’t bought a Wii U first place…

FPS or Horror with couch mode co-op using the pad and TV for each player.

People bought a Wii U for the great Nintendo games, not the gimmick fps controls.

If you can bring a good FPS controlled using the gamepad, that can surely attract people.

i feel that any attempt at a military shooter, first or third person, would lead to comparisons to other series on competing consoles. Realism is not the Wii U’s forte compared to the next gen competition. However, Splatoon has garnered some deal of acclaim prior to its release. It seems to appeal to the Wii U consumer base, eschewing realism for fun and colour. Survival horror is also a tricky issue for the Wii U. Reviews for zombiU were highly polarised (ranging from 4.5/10 to 9.2/10) with a possible sequel being canceled due to insufficient returns. Large companies have generally steered away from the genre due to being more of a cult niche, having a small pool of devotees as opposed to larger market appeal. Sports games can succeed but are often dismissed as being tech demos or cheap shovelware, especially from third party developers.
my vote is on a more stylised game that would appeal to the general consumer base of the Wii U. Stylised survival horror would be interesting and the Wii U currently seems to have a significant lack of first person shooters that seems ripe for a nifty, fun shooter to fill the niche. A third party shooter at this time would likely draw comparisons to the upcoming Splatoon. Sports is a bit a coin flip. This is all, of course, opinion and semi-educated guessing from an industry enthusiast.
